Put It on My Midwife™: Getting to the Heart of the Matter centers one of the most urgent issues in maternal health today: cardiovascular conditions as the leading cause of pregnancy-related death in the United States, disproportionately impacting Black birthing people.

Facilitated by Lakisa Muhammad, CPM, LM, CEO of Black Birth Equity NOW (BBEN), this session equips birthworkers with the knowledge and tools to support heart health education in ways that are accessible, culturally responsive, and grounded in scope of practice.

Birthworkers are often the first line of support in the perinatal journey. This workshop strengthens your ability to:

Recognize early warning signs and risk factors
Translate blood pressure and cardiovascular concepts into everyday language
Support clients in advocating for themselves in clinical settings
Integrate simple, culturally relevant movement and prevention practices

This is not about turning birthworkers into clinicians.

This is about strengthening our role as trusted educators, advocates, and protectors of Black maternal health.

This workshop is ideal for doulas, childbirth educators, midwives, and community birthworkers committed to saving lives through informed, community-centered care.
