Our Campaign: Why We Rally for the First Responders

Every day, the first responders of Monroe County—our police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics—put on a uniform and run toward the danger that everyone else is fleeing. They are the essential line protecting our community, but who backs them up when they need help?

That's the mission of Back the Line of Monroe County (BTL), and it's why we're raising money today.

Back the Line is a certified 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to promoting hope and compassion within our local first responder community and their families. They firmly believe that even a small act of kindness can have a life-changing impact.

This campaign is proudly supported and powered by the Exchange Club of Northside Bloomington, an organization dedicated to making our community a better place to live. Their commitment to service and community development makes them an essential partner in supporting the vital work done by Back the Line of Monroe County.

The Mission: More Than Just a Thank You

When tragedy strikes a first responder family—whether it’s a sudden illness, a major life event, or a financial emergency stemming from a line-of-duty injury—BTL is there. They operate across three crucial pillars:

Financial Support & Philanthropy: They provide direct financial assistance and sourced aid when tough times befall local first responders and their families. This support is critical for covering unexpected expenses and providing a safety net when it’s needed most.
Connecting Our Community: BTL organizes year-round events, such as their annual Campout, to bring first responders, their families, and the wider Monroe community together. These events foster resilience, create a strong peer-support network, and remind our heroes that they are valued and not alone.
Advocacy and Resources: They serve as a central hub, connecting first responders and their families with the mental, emotional, and physical support resources they need to thrive, both on and off the job.

The Need: A Little Can Make a Big Difference

Our first responders face high stress, long hours, and challenging situations every single day. While we can’t take away the challenges of the job, we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them and ensure that when they need backup, their community is ready to answer the call.
