Proyecto Rosenda is a community-led effort that started in 2020 to respond to the increased water scarcity & deforestation in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. The project started as a family and community led effort to plant trees as a way to counteract deforestation, soil degradation and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The state of Oaxaca is home to one of the largest diverse indigenous communities in the continent and is at the front lines of climate change, longer droughts, floods and increasing yearly wildfires.

In the coming months we are planning to implement water pumps and install new irrigation for our tree nursery as well as water for community use for this coming year's drought.

This Project works directly with indigenous families as they autonomously decide at what scale they want to work, guided by elders. In 2024 we are working directly with 45-50 families in 6 communities encompassing 3 ecologically diverse regions. Since its inception our project has planted over 30k native trees, funded only by the mutual aid model.

We hope to raise $25k to purchase pumps, cisterns, purchase and install irrigation systems, and purchase more saplings and germinate seeds for the nursery and for planting, with hopes to sustainably insure our communities are prepared as the climate crisis calls for urgent and long lasting measures.
