About First Gen Success

 

Founded in 2019, First Gen Success partners with schools across the Charlotte area to provide mentorship, resources, and scholarships to first-generation students. With the guidance of dedicated mentors, volunteers, and community supporters like you, we create opportunities to inspire confidence and ensure college readiness. This year, we’re working with scholars from four partner schools.

 

What Your Donation Supports

Your contribution provides critical support to help scholars succeed on their college journey. Donations cover:

 

  • Textbooks & Course Materials: Access to essential textbooks, online subscriptions, and study materials.

  • Technology Needs: Funding for laptops, software, and internet access to support academic success.

  • Transportation: Assistance with transit passes, gas, or travel expenses to campus and internships.

  • Dorm Essentials & Supplies: Bedding, kitchenware, and cleaning supplies for a comfortable living space.

  • Academic Supplies: Notebooks, calculators, and organizational tools for effective study.

  • Emergency Fund: A safety net for unforeseen expenses like medical bills or urgent repairs.

  • Monthly Programming & Mentor Enrichment Sessions: Engaging workshops, personal growth sessions, and mentorship activities that keep scholars motivated and prepared for college challenges.

Programming & Mentor/Scholar Enrichment Sessions: $500

 

  • Monthly Workshops & Sessions: Engaging activities focused on college preparation, leadership, life skills, and personal development.

  • Transportation for Scholars: Ensures scholars have access to funding for travel to programming and enrichment sessions, enabling full participation.

  • Mentor Engagement: Resources for mentor-scholar activities that build lasting connections and strengthen support.

  • Guest Speakers & Career Development: Opportunities for scholars to learn from professionals and alumni, providing guidance and career inspiration.

 

Textbooks & Course Materials: $250

 

  • Textbooks: Covers key textbooks and course materials required for classes.

  • Online Access Codes & Subscriptions: Ensures access to essential digital resources for coursework.

 

Technology Needs: $250

 

  • Laptop Assistance: Contributes to the cost of a laptop or necessary tech accessories.

  • Software & Internet Access: Supports purchasing essential academic software and internet connectivity for remote learning.

 

Dorm Essentials & Household Supplies: $200

 

  • Dorm Kit: Provides essentials like bedding, towels, and personal items to help students settle into campus life.

  • Household Supplies: Includes small essentials like cleaning supplies and kitchenware for a comfortable living space.

 

Transportation: $150

 

  • Transit Passes or Gas Cards: Supports commuting costs to campus or internships.

  • Occasional Long-Distance Travel: Helps with transportation home for holidays or special occasions.

 

Academic Supplies: $100
