Story

I am thrilled to run the 125th Boston Marathon this fall to raise money for Hopkinton Middle School's Desire to Inspire Program.  Since its establishment in 2013, Desire to Inspire has provided a wealth of opportunities to our students through curriculum and activities that tie the spirit of the marathon to the educational experiences of students.  In that time, students have been inspired by guest speakers such as U.S. Representative Joseph Kennedy III, Boston and NYC Marathon winner, and Olympic Silver Medalist Meb Keflezighi, Marathon runner and triathlete John Young, Author Gregory Maguire, Marathoners and Ironmen Rick and Dick Hoyt, and others.  Through Desire to Inspire, we launched the "Marathon Challenge" where all HMS students ran, walked or cheered on classmates in a 2.62 mile school-wide event.  Desire to Inspire has created countless collaborations, partnering with organizations like The 26.2 Foundation, Alpha Omega Council, and The Examined Life bringing extraordinary opportunities and inspiration to our students and educators.

The goal of inspiring our students and educators is always important but especially today on the heels of a very challenging year for all of us.

On a personal note, having moved to Massachusetts in 2001, I only knew the Boston Marathon as a race, not the event that I came to realize it as.  After several Marathon Mondays cheering on both the elite and non-elite, I became inspired to see if I could meet the challenge, eventually running in 2012.  Upon crossing the finish line that day, I felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment and pride, and commitment to never doing that again.  Shortly after though, once my legs and toenails recovered, I began to quickly miss those training runs, which took me down roads, trails and streets, I had not previously discovered and the sense of community that I experienced running the marathon and being greeted and cheered on by friends, family and strangers on that special day.  And so, nine years later, I am thrilled to give the Boston Marathon another go.

I greatly appreciate your support.
