Maine’s 3rd Annual Afrochella: A Celebration of Culture, Fashion, and Education

Afrochella, hosted by the Women of Color ROCC at the University of Southern Maine, is more than an event. It’s a movement that uplifts underserved communities, amplifies student voices, and celebrates cultural pride through fashion, music, and education.

Since its founding, Maine's Afrochella has become a signature space for Black and Brown students to showcase their heritage, build leadership, and foster meaningful connections across the USM campus and Greater Portland community. Our 1st Afrochella was named USM’s Event of the Year, and our 2nd centered powerful discussions around hair heritage, breaking stigmas while uplifting local vendors and artists.

This year, the 3rd Annual Afrochella continues that legacy with three dynamic elements:
👗 A fashion show highlighting traditional and modern styles.
🎶 Cultural performances in dance, music, and spoken word.
📚 An educational piece on resilience, leadership, and art as a tool for healing.
