Story
We are honored to host our 12th Queer Youth Prom in Downtown Asheville. We've rescheduled the event to 7pm-10pm Thursday June 8th, 2023!!! We can't wait to welcome Queer and Trans youth from across Western North Carolina for a gothic night of fun! All funds raised from tickets and donations will support Youth OUTright programs and services, like prom.
Queer prom will feature a variety of entertainers and activities! We will have DJs, drag performances, crafts, and interactive installations. Stay tuned as we announce our lineup of magnificent creatives!
We are so excited to work with Bun Intended, local Thai-inspired street food, again to cater queer prom! Every attendee will receive a food ticket that includes a beverage and a variety of protein, vegan, and gluten-free bites ranging from salty to sweet.
Prom is at an outdoor venue. We will be monitoring developments in COVID-19 to determine the best protocols to keep everyone healthy. Details will be shared in emails leading up to the event.
To ensure the safety of all our guests, we've hired a community safety team for prom. These individuals are practiced in de-escalation and have received appropriate training for their roles. We will also have a staffed medic tent.
We will have a decompression space for anyone who wants to take a moment to themselves. Every attendee will receive a fidget as part of their welcome package. The event is a silent disco to reduce noise and light stimulation will be limited. The venue is wheelchair accessible with drop-off spaces at the entrance. There is paid parking across the street from the venue. If you have any accessibility needs, there is a space for you to share that information with us when you get a ticket.
This is a no-turn-away event. If you are seeking a no-cost ticket, please email us at [email protected] to receive a promo code.
We know that the traditional prom is not always a welcoming space for everyone, particularly LGBTQIA+ teens. Queer and Trans young people deserve an affirming, safe, and celebratory prom where they feel valued for who they are and how they express themselves.
We are grateful for all of our community partners, donors, and volunteers who make it possible for us to bring the community together for this annual event. Our prom committee has been hard at work and you can be part of making the event a success too.
Here are just a few ways your donation will be used:
Our goal is to raise $6,500 in support of this cherished annual event. All additional contributions will fund Youth OUTright programs and services.
Prom tickets will go on sale in May. Make sure to sign up for our newsletter and follow us on Instagram to make sure you don't miss any prom announcements as more information is released.
