How B Walker Ranch started

Jeanine Stanley is the mother of Ben, an adult with autism. As Ben grew older, she began asking the question, "What kind of life will my son have when he becomes an adult?" She also became painfully aware of limited program options available for autistic children coming through the system, especially once they turn 22 years of age.

Pamela Hale Mitchell has a brother on the autism spectrum. The two friends decided to join forces. They began to develop a ranching program called B Walker Ranch, a place where adults with autism could spend their days full of meaning and purpose.

We've made huge progress

Collected a 10.63-acre parcel of land in the beautiful Suisun Valley in the wine district of Fairfield, California. The front 5 acres are now secured with a cedar split-rail fence (courtesy of Salesforce). The ranch has 3 outbuildings including a salvageable 1897 farmhouse, 27 fruit and nut trees. We've added 25 olive trees, 24 pepper trees and more fruit trees. Much needed infrastructure was added. A 200 amp and 400 amp underground electrical service, roads, 2 water wells, a septic system that would accommodate 300+ folks. Grants from the Thomas J Long Foundation and National Recreation Foundation (Nan & Chip Davison) have put our horticulture program in place with a green house, garden boxes and irrigation.

A place to grow and belong

Our ranchers will be fully immersed in the responsibilities of running a ranch. Learning to care for animals, growing product from seed to harvest to farmstand. These activities and more offer opportunities to learn and grow based on the abilities of the individual. Farming IS the teaching tool. Here are a few examples of activities the ranchers might do as they are able:

How to help

Our Year-End Challenge continues where Giving Tuesday left off. The goal is to raise the remaining $4,950 to reach the $18,000 needed for irrigation pipes, bibs, pump and water lines to get water to all four corners of the property. With your help, we can go the country mile and raise the remaining funds needed to purchase and implement an irrigation system.

The $18,000 in donations will complement the generous grant from the Rossmoor Rotary Club and other local Rotarians for our magnificent water tank (Petticoat Junction style).
