Spina Bifida Awareness Month

The Dahlia Playground: A Place Where Every Child Can Play

October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month, and this cause is close to our hearts. Our inspiration is Dollie, who was born with myelomeningocele spina bifida at L4 and L5.

What is Spina Bifida?
Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the spinal cord doesn’t form properly. It can lead to challenges with walking, balance, and overall mobility. For children like Dollie, something as simple as playing on a playground can be difficult when equipment isn’t accessible or safe for them.

Why We Need an Inclusive Playground
Most playgrounds are designed without considering the needs of children with disabilities. Stairs, narrow spaces, and non-adaptive equipment can leave kids feeling left out—watching from the sidelines instead of joining in the fun.

The Dahlia Playground will change that. It will be a fully inclusive play space where children of all abilities can laugh, explore, and grow together. With wheelchair-accessible equipment, sensory-friendly features, and thoughtful design, it will create a community space that celebrates inclusion and ensures that no child is left out of play.

How You Can Help
Your donation will directly support the creation of this playground. Every contribution—big or small—brings us closer to giving kids like Dollie a space where they can experience the joy of play without barriers.

Together, we can build more than a playground. We can build a place of belonging, connection, and joy for every child.

Donate today and help us make the Dahlia Playground a reality.
