Over the last 25 years, I have taught preschool through high school. Though the ages of the children changed, one thing remained a constant- my appreciation and love of books. Recently, the middle school where I am the librarian, voted When Stars are Scattered as the winner of our school-wide Book Madness program, emerging as the Champion of the 32 books in the competition. During conversations with teachers and students, I saw the power of how the written word merged with beautiful illustrations impacted those that read and learned about Omar and Hassan's journey. For many, it was the first time to learn about life in a refugee camp. I am honored to help raise funds for Dadaab's students and their first library.
