Hens for Hope: Laying the Foundation for Brighter Futures

In the quiet early hours of the morning, when the world is just stirring, a dedicated team springs into action. They’re not just chickens laying eggs; they’re hens cultivating hope. At Rice and Beans Ministries, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and flourish. But for many children in our community, the day begins with an empty stomach, making it difficult to concentrate on the lessons ahead.

 Rice and Beans Ministries has been providing food insecurity assistance to over 40 schools with food and school supplies, ensuring that children have the resources they need to thrive. Currently, we provide 90 eggs daily to support school breakfasts—an essential meal that’s not part of the school budget. But we know we can do more.

Our goal is to increase our hens to 400, allowing us to provide even more eggs and support more children. 

Specifically, we need $5,000 to build additional chicken houses, $1500 to equip them with water, electricity, and feeders, and $1,800 to buy the hens that are ready to lay eggs. Once these are in place, it will cost us  $1000 a month to feed and care for these 400 hens, only $2.50 a month for 30 fresh eggs. This expansion will produce 140,000 eggs annually, providing vital nutrition and also using the  chicken waste as fertilizer for our gardens.
