Interested in supporting an underserved community facing long-lasting effects due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

In the fall of 2018, Refresh Bolivia opened a health center in partnership with a community-based non-profit. Staffed 5 days per week by a doctor and nurse well acquainted with the local communities, the clinic serves a community of over 6,000 individuals.

The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted operations at the Integrated Health Center, including vaccine administration for nearby youth and adult populations. As it stands now, due to logistical complications and the lack of space, vaccines cannot be stored at the integrated health center, meaning that many children within the nearby population are not receiving basic health protections given far distances to other health posts. In addition, in the years following the initial pandemic, residents continue to face the effects of pre-existing conditions that were exacerbated by COVID-19, and lack the mobility and funds necessary to receive proper treatment.

In collaboration with the local Ministry of Health and non-profit groups, our team plans to expand the integrated health center to construct a vaccine center and pharmacy addition, allowing for storage and administration of vaccines as well as more effective distribution of medication. Additionally, the extra space will allow more patients to be treated effectively, with the clinic facing an increase of patient visits in the years following the pandemic.
