About the Reading Circles

What happens when we revisit the ideas that reshaped how Muslim women understood faith, authority, and themselves?

Muslims for Progressive Values is partnering with Dr. Hasib Nasiri to launch a new cycle of Reading Circles in Islamic Feminism — a year‑long journey into the thinkers, debates, and intellectual traditions that have defined Islamic feminist thought.

Dr. Nasiri’s work brings together Islamic philosophy, theology, and gender, with a focus on the often‑overlooked intellectual contributions of Muslim feminist scholars. These circles offer a reflective, intimate space where participants read, question, and engage deeply with Islamic feminist ideas — ideas frequently overshadowed by apologetics on one side and prejudice on the other.

Each group meets monthly in small online cohorts designed for depth, trust, and meaningful dialogue.

Reading Circle Schedule

Each reading circle will run for 12 months, beginning in April 2026 and concluding in April 2027, with one session per month, each lasting 3 hours. To accommodate as many individuals as possible, we have opened registration for two Reading Circles, each limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

Reading Circle I will be held the second Saturday of every month from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM PT - 1 SPOT REMAINING

Reading Circle II will be held the second Sunday of every month from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM PT - CLOSED

Reading Circle Pricing

The programs uses a solidarity-based pricing model. All tiers provide the same access but each participants choses their own fee tier based on their financial situation.

Scholarship Tier: $100
Regular Tier: $150
Supporter Tier: $200

About the Facilitator

Dr. Hasib Nasiri is a Danish‑Afghan philosopher whose work sits at the intersection of Islamic philosophy, theology, and gender in the Islamic tradition. He earned his doctorate from Uppsala University on a dissertation examining the role of religious critique in Islamic thought.

Since 2020, Dr. Nasiri has facilitated reading circles in Islamic feminism with more than 110 participants across both introductory and advanced levels. These circles have become a space for learning, reflection, and community — but they were created for a deeper reason.
