Redbud Writing Project
When you support Redbud, you’re supporting creative writing—and you’re also supporting so much more. Wellness. Catharsis. Community. Connection. Social change.
Whether our students participate in our tuition-based classes or our free Community Courses Program, they all say the same thing. Redbud opened up my world. Redbud made writing my story feel possible. Redbud introduced me to new beloved authors, taught me game-changing craft advice. I met my new best friend in a Redbud class. Redbud healed me from trauma, helped my recovery, or gave me the courage to speak out.
We believe that everybody deserves access to our programming. And that’s why we need your help. We rely on donations, grants, and corporate support for two reasons:
We operate our tuition-based classes at a financial loss. We offer these classes on a sliding scale, and ninety-five percent of Redbud students choose our subsidized price at check-out. We are committed to keeping class costs low. But that means that in order to pay a living wage to our instructors and staff, we need to fundraise for the difference between what we make on the class and what the class actually costs.
Every six-week round, we offer four classes, events, or opportunities that are completely free to participants. Maybe that’s a class for unhoused Raleighites or a class for survivors of domestic violence as part of our Community Courses Program. Maybe that’s an issue of our student-run literary magazine, or a Speaker Series event, or our yearly short story competition. We’re committed to offering this panoply of high-quality literary programming to bring together everyone in our community, not just those who can afford it.
Contributing to Redbud means contributing to all of the above. Help us open up someone’s world today.
