I am the mother of a survivor and a health care provider for children and adolescents. Everyday I see the impact domestic violence has on our young people.
This is for survivors of teen dating violence and the people who support them. More awareness and education is needed for those who build relationships with adolescents so that they can screen for or detect potential abuse in a peer relationships. This includes parents, teachers, school counselors and health care providers. Support systems are also needed for survivors of dating violence who are under the age of 18. Studies show that 19% of youth between the ages of 14-20 will experience violence in a dating relationship but we have yet to find a way to connect these survivors so they feel less alone.
