Our names are Insiya Sumar, Safya Sumar, Zahra Sumar, Lisa Wang, Simal Ali, and Sophia Ali. We are in elementary school through high school. We are Muslims who live in Lexington, MA celebrating the Islamic month of Ramadan. During this month, we fast by giving up eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. But Ramadan is not only about abstaining from food and drinks. It is also about empathy, generosity, and charity in putting the needs of others ahead of our own. Thinking about others is important during this month.
During this past year with COVID-19, we wanted to help others who were having a hard time right here in our communities, including going to bed hungry. We started volunteering with organizations like Project Restore Us to partner with local chefs to deliver healthy food to essential workers and families impacted by the pandemic. We are lucky to have healthy food to eat whenever we want -- and we want to help others have the same opportunity. No one should go to bed hungry.
This Ramadan, as part of Zakat or our obligation to donate money to the those in need, we are creating a project to raise funds for Project Restore Us. Our goal is to raise $1000 to be able to feed dozens of families in the Boston area.
We would love it if you could donate money and support us through this project in this challenging time for so many. Will you help us?
