Ridgewood Tenants Union: Housing For People, Not For Profit
Help us build tenant power in Ridgewood and beyond in 2026!
For 11 years, the Ridgewood Tenants Union has been organizing and standing up for our neighbors as they have faced evictions, harassment, bad living conditions, and homelessness. We have also organized around community-wide campaigns to raise awareness and collective people power on issues of gentrification and racism, such as the Ridgewood Tower luxury development and Robert Holden’s legislation to repeal the chokehold ban. In August of 2022, after reports of hit-and-runs near Myrtle Ave and Seneca Ave, one which took the life of a delivery worker, we successfully pushed the Department of Transportation to install a traffic signal near the intersection. Our tenant union takes many forms, but ultimately it belongs to its members.
In 2026 we have big goals of renting a space so that, for the very first time, our tenant union can have a stable home for our organizing to become even more effective. As we mobilize and continue to organize around housing, violence from ICE, and all the insecurity facing many of our working class neighbors, we have come to the realization that to sustain our capacity and effectiveness, we need a home to call our own.
Your donations will also help us host a new website, purchase office supplies like paper and ink for flyers, pay for our Zoom account, among other things. Since this is our first fundraising appeal since 2022, we are getting back into the swing of crowdfunding. When we did our first fundraising appeal during the pandemic, we reached our goals and with those funds, we were able to provide food and other survival items to thousands of our neighbors. Now, this time around, we have another big goal, and we would love to count on your support and solidarity.
Please consider giving what you can and help us build tenant power so we can keep fighting for our neighbors.
MISSION
Ridgewood Tenants Union is an all-volunteer and tenant-led anti-gentrification group whose mission is to grow the power of tenants in Ridgewood to collectively fight displacement. We work towards our mission by door-knocking to inform tenants about their rights, holding monthly tenant assemblies, organizing tenant associations, holding know-your-rights trainings, creating neighborhood-wide campaigns and projects that address the impacts of gentrification, and working in coalition with other housing groups in NYC.
