2020 Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is a worldwide generosity movement to make an impact on nonprofits and organizations doing great things. In short: it's a simple way to do good for your community.

2020 has been...well, you know...tough and unpredictable. What we do know is the year created an opportunity to pivot, explore, be creative and lean into our strengths as an organization.

From creating modified events to volunteers providing resume coaching and mock interviews over Zoom - finding new ways to support RISE Builders on the inside has been a challenge, but one we won't back down from. Reentry planning matters every single day.

Knowing more than 650,000 men and women return to their communities from state and federal prisons each year, pandemic or not, it's critical to keep living out our mission - that all people will find freedom from cycles of incarceration.

Preparing people to reenter well is on all of us, yet the barriers to success are significant. Employment with a livable wage, safe and affordable housing, transportation, obtaining ID's and drivers licenses - they are all every day struggles for people reentering. However, when communities help their neighbors reenter society well, public safety improves, employment increases, and people can thrive.

We teach our Builders about the power of learning how to ask for help. Is the community ready to give it? Can you be one to help people reenter well? Your support for RISE Academy would be a great first start.

RISE is an innovative "inside-out" program serving incarcerated people through an intensive 6-month reentry class at 7 NE prisons & providing reentry services to released program graduates.

In-prison programming focuses on character development, job readiness, reentry planning & entrepreneurship. Reentry programming includes case management, employment, transportation, housing support & basic needs for returning citizens. Our vision is that all people find freedom from cycles of incarceration.
