The Reimagining Health Equity Fund is a bold initiative of WAVE Women Inc, a Black Trans-fem led 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating sustainable, community-driven solutions for the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ individuals in New York State. This fund was born out of urgency in the midst of the largest coordinated legislative and cultural attack on Transgender rights in U.S. history, but it is powered by hope, resilience, and the belief that we can and must build the systems our people need to thrive.

This is not charity. This is revolution.

The Reimagining Health Equity Fund is about Trans/GNC folks coming together to dream, to reimagine, and to build long-lasting solutions to health inequity in our own communities. We recognize that healthcare is not just about doctor visits; it’s about dismantling the economic, social, and systemic barriers that too often leave Transgender people without access to basic preventive care, affirming services, and life-saving support.

Across New York, Trans individuals face disproportionate rates of unemployment, poverty, housing insecurity, and discrimination; all of which are deeply intertwined with health outcomes. For many, even when providers exist, the cost of care remains an insurmountable barrier. That’s where the Reimagining Health Equity Fund steps in.

Our Mission and Our Partnership

Through this fund, WAVE Women Inc will partner with Riverside Family Medicine, a trusted, Trans-led healthcare provider rooted in our local community. Riverside is more than a clinic, it is a lifeline for Transgender people who have nowhere else to turn. Together, we will provide:

Low-cost preventive care services for uninsured or underinsured community members;
Affirming, culturally competent care delivered by people who understand Trans experiences firsthand;
Subsidized access for Transgender people who cannot afford the full cost of care;
A safe, welcoming environment where patients are seen, heard, and honored.

This partnership is more than a contract. It is a community solution built from the ground up, designed byTrans people, for Trans people, and it has the potential to reshape how health equity is realized on a local and statewide level for the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole.
