Cock-a-Doodle Doo: Our Roosters Need YOU
Naughty Donkey Farm Sanctuary is home to 22 roosters. Their stories are different: Some came to us from shelters while others were found roaming the streets; some arrived here as chicks of indeterminate genders and eventually started crowing and some were survivors of a religious ritual. All the roosters at the sanctuary have one thing in common: they were unwanted.
Whether rooster are bold and boisterous, quiet observers or antisocial, they all share a need for space, structure and safety — and right now, we’re reaching our limits.
While we’ve carefully separated them into compatible groups, tensions still flare. Some roosters are becoming too rough with hens or one another. Others just need a little more room to roam or a quiet corner to retreat. To keep the peace and protect their well-being, we urgently need:
- Additional coops and secure fencing for more individualized flocks
- Safe enrichment areas where roosters can explore, dust bathe or simply be alone
- Daily resources like bedding, feed and medical care for this growing crew
Roosters are one of the most frequently abandoned farm animals. They are often unwanted due to noise ordinances, outdated myths about aggression or simply because they’re born male. Here, we see who they truly are: smart, funny and sensitive individuals who deserve to have their individual needs met.
Can you help us give them the life they deserve?
