Meet Kristen

She’s 41 and moved to Utah from Long Beach, CA when she was 10. She’s a natural artist—her creativity shines through in everything from painting and chalk art to woodworking and knitting. She has a sweet little service dog named Mochi, and a deep appreciation for the simple things, like the home-cooked meals her mom used to make.

Kristen is clear-headed and emotionally sensitive. Right now, she’s living day to day in a motel, relying on the kindness of others to cover the cost of her room. She’s honest about the choices that led her here—but she’s also proud to say she’s left drugs behind and is committed to staying far from anything that could jeopardize her recovery.

Mental health remains a challenge, but Kristen is doing the work. She dreams of peace. She dreams of seeing her six children again, who are currently living with family. Her heart aches for the moments she’s missed, and she holds onto hope that one day she’ll have a stable home where they can visit her.

Her ultimate dream? A small place in the country, where she can grow her own food and create art in a little studio of her own.

How Can You Help?

At Cartwheel Fairy, we’re helping Kristen take the next steps toward rebuilding her life. We’re supplying her with art materials and supporting her as she creates a portfolio—so she can start selling her artwork and creative services, first through word of mouth, and eventually on a platform like Etsy.

We’re also supporting her through the process of applying for a Section 8 voucher to secure long-term housing in a safe environment. Until that comes through, she’ll likely need to remain at the motel unless a better option arises.
