Cascadia Pigeon Rescue Helps Sick, Injured, Disabled, and Surrendered Birds
Cascadia Pigeon Rescue is a Washington- and Oregon-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to saving pigeons who are hurt, abandoned, disabled, or simply forgotten. The majority of our volunteers are in the greater Seattle and Portland areas, but we have volunteers and contacts worldwide. Every week, we take in birds who have nowhere else to turn: victims of stringfoot, predator attacks, starvation, car or window strikes, crop problems, respiratory infections, and the countless other medical crises that domestic and feral pigeons face after being abandoned outdoors.
We provide triage, first aid, and stabilization while the birds await medical treatment from licensed vets and wildlife rehabilitators. We also ensure that our birds get safe housing, any rehabilitation needed, and adoption or sanctuary placement. Many of the pigeons we take in require days, weeks, or months of intensive care — tube-feeding, medications, wound management, x-rays, lab work, surgeries, expensive testing, specialized environments to acommodate disabilities, and special diets.
Our work doesn’t stop at the borders of the Pacific Northwest!
Cascadia assists caretakers all over the world. When someone in another country finds a sick or injured pigeon and has nowhere to turn, we help. We help rescuers navigate urgent situations, including what to do right away and how to get a bird proper medical care, guidance on first aid steps that anyone can take while seeking medical care, supply shipments, and financial support to purchase things like supplies and medications. Whether it’s paying for hand feeding formula in South America, helping someone in Europe save a bird with canker, or guiding a rescuer in Asia through de-stringing and wound care, we step in because these birds deserve someone in their corner.
We are entirely donor supported. We receive no government funding and do not charge for the help we give. Every bag of feed, every bottle of medication, every emergency intake, every stringfoot kit, every test the vet runs for us, every bag of formula, every international consultation — all of it is only possible because compassionate people choose to give.
$25,000 covers operational costs for one month but we have the capacity to do much more if more were raised. The only thing preventing us from saving more birds is the cost. Your donation directly funds:
-
medical supplies, medications, and supplements
-
both emergency and routine veterinary care
-
critical care diets and tube-feeding supplies
-
safe housing and rehabilitation
-
materials for aviary construction
-
long-term care for disabled sanctuary birds
-
feed, dishes, cages and enclosures, pee pads, blankets, towels, and bedding
-
international support and supplies for rescuers who have no resources or local help
-
life-saving interventions for pigeons in crisis
Every contribution makes an immediate difference in the life of a bird who would not survive without assistance. Your support means we can say “yes” to the next pigeon in need, whether they are here in the Pacific Northwest or halfway around the world.
Thank you for caring about these gentle, intelligent, overlooked birds. Thank you for giving them a chance.
