What is BrightBill?

BrightBill is a free public app that helps people understand what’s actually written in federal legislation.

Line by line. Clause by clause.

It was built to answer one urgent question:
What’s really in the bill?

There’s so much spin, confusion, and deliberate complexity in the way laws are written and reported. Most people never read the actual legislative text, because without legal training, it’s overwhelming by design.

BrightBill helps change that.

What Makes This Different?

This isn’t just a PDF viewer. BrightBill is powered by something I created called the Transparency Model—a structured framework that:

Breaks down bill language into plain-English summaries
Flags red-flag phrases (like legal overrides and special carveouts)
Helps people see where power is being used, obscured, or abused

I’ve read every clause. I’ve categorized the power structures and policies.
And I’ve done it to give the public a tool that doesn’t exist anywhere else.

(At least nowhere I ever knew how to find it.)

Why This Needs Your Help

BrightBill took hundreds of hours of unpaid labor to build.
And it’s not free to maintain. I outgrew all the free tools long ago.

Hosting, storage, spreadsheets, audits, UI systems.
There’s no team. No grant. No foundation backing this.
It’s just me, and a belief that people deserve to see what they’re governed by.
