The Black Educator Advocates Network is dedicated not only to increasing the representation of Black educators but also to ensuring their retention in our schools. With over 78,000 Black students in California classrooms lacking Black educators, our advocacy team prioritized engaging with Black educators to comprehend their work environments and identify measures to keep them in education.
We listened to over 130 Black educators statewide, recognizing that retaining Black educators requires school leaders and districts to be equipped with the tools to establish culturally affirming work environments.
In response, our team is advocating alongside Black educators by constructing anti-racist work environments. We have initiated the development of a curriculum to guide school leaders and districts in centering Black educators and amplifying their voices within schools. The data we collected from the CA Black Educator Survey has also informed our policy platform for 2024.
Your donation plays a crucial role in increasing the number of Black educators in classrooms and ensuring their sustained presence in education for the benefit of ALL students across the state. Your contribution directly supports our efforts to advocate for state and local policies impacting the Black educator pipeline, as well as our program coaching school leaders to establish culturally affirming work environments.
