CANtemporaries Auction and Programming Series Opening Reception, March 4 from 7-10 p.m. at Assembly

Join us at Assembly on March 4th from 7-10 pm for the opening reception of The CANtemporaries Auction and Programming Series, an exhibition and multidisciplinary programming series designed to showcase the work of the CANtemporary Artists in Residence and Workshop Participants.

While at the opening reception, enjoy the ‘CANtemporaries Auction’, an exhibition featuring the CAN Foundation’s artists in residence and workshop participants.

The classical art song performance, ‘HerStory Through Song’, a curated dedication to the contributions and legacy of black female composers (in honor of Women’s History Month) by CANtemporary Artist in Residence, Denise Nicole Battle, will take place in the rooftop event space at 7:30 pm. The program will include performances of poems, folk songs, (and more) by Denise Battle, Amber Garrett, and Bianca Jackson.

‘Her Story Through Song’ will serve as a fundraiser for Tidewater Area Musicians (TAM), a local chapter of the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM).

The ‘CANtemporaries Auction and Programming Series’ will include several multigenre programs and events and will serve as a fundraiser to benefit participating artists and future CANtemporary Residencies and Workshops. There is a required donation of $5 to attend, and any additional amount of support is encouraged and appreciated.

About the CANtemporaries Residency and Workshop

The CANtemporaries Residency and Workshop is a 3 month multidisciplinary collaborative artist development program.

Participating artists are offered studio space at the CAN HQ, recording, performance and/or exhibition opportunities, and bi-weekly critiques and brainstorming sessions. The residency and workshop will culminate in a multi-genre collaborative exhibition.
