Happy Birthday to Sally! She's donating her birthday to a good cause once again. This year, she selected Youth OUTright, a non-profit serving queer and trans youth ages 11-24 in Western North Carolina. Our goal is to raise $2,000 in support of this much-needed organization. So put on your dancing shoes, and let's celebrate our friend Sally by making an impact in our community!
Located in Asheville, NC, their youth center serves as an education, support, and resource hub for LGBTQIA2S+ youth for over 130 youth. They have a free store, small food pantry, community library, stocked art room, games, instruments, and so much more. Every week, they provide rotating programs such as educational workshops, art-making, nature exploration, and cultural field trips. Monthly they offer programs for QTBIPOC youth to build community and practice autonomy. Their free store supplies youth with harm reduction kits, safer sex supplies, gender-affirming garments, and culturally responsive personal care items—resources not available or safe to access at most distribution sites.
Youth OUTright supports rural youth by helping establish LGBTQIA2S+ clubs in schools and the community, where they offer training and resources. Their Direct Youth Payment Program provides youth at risk of losing access to necessities like housing, food, and healthcare with $200 mini-grants every quarter. By year's end, they will have distributed $15,000 directly to youth in need. All of Youth OUTright programs and services are completely FREE to queer and trans youth.
Particularly during these challenging times for the LGBTQIA2S+ community, it’s vital for Youth OUTright to have the flexibility to meet the emerging needs of queer and trans youth. When you make a donation to Youth OUTright, these are some examples of how your contribution is used:
$25 provides 1 youth with trans tape
$50 provides fresh fruit and non-perishable meals for the snack pantry for 1 week
$100 covers the cost of 1 employee for a 3-hour program
$150 feeds approximately 15 youth for one program
$300 covers the cost of 1 safety team member for 1 week of programs
$500 provides 25 youth with binders
$1,000 supports 5 youth in the Direct Youth Payment Program
$4,500 provides stipends for 5 Youth Advisory Board members for 1 year
