I am proud to serve as a board member for Guardians of Flushing Bay, a coalition of human-powered boaters, park users and local
residents advocating for healthy communities and equitable access to waters in Flushing, Jackson Heights, Corona, College Point and East
Elmhurst.
With very limited resources and through grassroots efforts, GoFB advocates for plans, policies and projects that advance justice for both low- and middle-income communities, communities of color and ecological communities. Please consider supporting us with a donation to continue and expand on our successes. Highlights of our related accomplishments include:
- Successfully advocated for the removal of an abandoned floating barge from Flushing Bay
- Introduced oyster research and education stations to the waterways
- Incorporated GoFB concerns for Flushing Waterways in the City’s sewage control plans.
- Created the Flushing Waterways Vision Plan, a community-generated report with over 50 recommendations for improving park access and wetland habitat.
- Designed a community-informed green infrastructure asset that pilots innovative approaches to stormwater management in areas with high water tables, high levels of contamination and communities vulnerable to green gentrification.
These are only a few of our past accomplishments. Please support us
with a donation as we envision a healthy and equitable collective who
steward the water and support our communities!
