We understand that achieving this ambitious goal requires a scientific approach, innovative solutions, and most importantly, collaboration with local communities.

At Sea Collective, we are pioneering a new template for MPAs that truly meet global conservation objectives. We are not just creating protected areas; we are redefining the way these areas are designed and managed. Our approach is unique in that we conduct our own research on the relationship between fishing communities and the marine environment. We believe that understanding this relationship is key to creating MPAs that are not only effective in conserving marine biodiversity but also in supporting the livelihoods of local communities.

We place small-scale fishers at the heart of our conversation. We recognize their crucial role in marine conservation and their deep connection with the ocean. By putting fisherfolk at the center of our efforts, we aim to ensure that our MPAs are not only scientifically sound but also socially equitable.

Our work goes beyond data collection and research. We are actively working to safeguard our oceans and secure a thriving future for coastal communities. We do this by developing innovative methods for data collection, such as sailboat-based data collection, and by creating social-ecological MPAs that take into account both the health of the marine environment and the well-being of the people who depend on it.
