I’m embarking on an exciting 30-mile bike ride along the beautiful Southern California coast, stopping at 15 unique marine science points of interest! At each stop, I’ll share and livestream a short video (2 minutes or less) filled with fun facts, sea cucumber knowledge, and insights about the hidden ecological gems of our coastline.
But this is more than just a bike ride—it’s a chance for you to help me help our oceans! By pledging a certain amount per stop, you’ll directly contribute to helping me reach my $10,000 goal and secure my PhD scholarship through Rotary’s double matching program. This means that for every dollar you donate, it’s essentially multiplied several times over by the Rotary Foundation, ultimately helping me raise $54,000 in total. This funding will support my research on protecting sea cucumber fisheries and the communities that rely on them in East Africa.

How it Works:
Follow Along: I’ll be live streaming my ride on Instagram and Givebutter, sharing videos at each stop to bring the ocean’s wonders directly to you. You'll learn about coastal ecosystems, sea cucumbers, and the communities who rely on them.
Pledge Per Stop: You can "pledge" a certain amount for each of my 15 stops. For example, if you give $5 per stop, that’s a total of $75 if I complete all 15 stops. Your pledge will support my research on the economic and ecological importance of sea cucumbers and vulnerable fishing communities. Note that each pledge will be received as an upfront donation.
Donation Tiers:
Help me reach my goal of $10,000 by choosing a pledge tier that matches your preferred level of contribution. Since Sea Collective, a 501c3 nonprofit will collect your donations, all donations over $250 are tax deductible!
Plankton Tier: $1 per stop ($15 total)
A small step with a big impact! Your contribution will help keep me motivated as I bike the 30 miles.
Seagrass Tier: $5 per stop ($75 total)
You’re making waves! This pledge gets you a personal shout-out during the livestream and you'll receive a thank-you message with a personalized fun marine fact.
Reef Builder Tier: $10 per stop ($150 total)
You’re building a brighter future for coastal communities! As a thank you, you’ll receive a custom marine fact video from one of my stops, just for you!
Dolphin Pod Tier: $15 per stop ($250 total)

Sea Star Tier: $25 per stop ($375 total)
You’re a true champion of the ocean! With this generous pledge, you’ll receive a Sea Collective t-shirt, along with a personalized thank-you video from the coast. **Tax Deductible**
Manta Ray Tier: $35 per stop ($500 total)
Your heart is the size of a manta ray! As a thank you, you'll get all previous perks, plus a personalized video highlighting your contribution to this project! **Tax Deductible**
Sea Cucumber Superstar: $100 per stop ($1,500 for all 15 stops)
In addition to all previous perks, you’ll receive a limited-edition sea cucumber-themed thank-you gift and a personalized video tour of my lab at the National Marine Science Centre in Australia once I start my PhD! **Tax Deductible**
The goal is to raise $10,000 through your pledges, which will be matched 2:1 by the Rotary District and then 80% by the Rotary International Foundation, transforming our collective effort into $54,000 or more! Your generosity will help pay for my tuition and research expenses for the duration of my PhD.
