More than 1 in 5 Californian households face food insecurity, and over 1 in 4 families with children are food insecure (2025 Californians and Their Economic Well-Being Survey). In LA County, Long Beach has the highest percentage of low-income households experiencing food insecurity (more than 15 percent). Families are often faced with not having enough to eat, missing meals, and being forced to choose between buying food or paying for other essential living expenses. Food insecurity is associated with poor health status, developmental risks, mental health problems, and poor educational outcomes.
Luckily for Long Beach residents, Help Me Help You offers a variety of free food services, including free weekly groceries via 10 school and community Grocery Grab N Go locations; free groceries home-delivered for seniors and persons with disabilities via Long Beach Food Pantry Delivery; and free enrollment assistance for CalFresh benefits to shop for groceries as well as Medi-Cal (free or reduced healthcare), General Relief (emergency cash assistance) and more.
Each year, the demand for services continues to grow while resources are limited. In 2024, Help Me Help You improved the lives of over 66,000 Long Beach residents in need with life-saving services. We need your support to help more vulnerable residents with vital food and community services. Even a small tax-deductible donation of $20 will provide a family with a week of free nutritious groceries and enrollment assistance to essential community services.
Donations of $150 or more, get a free Bunny Plush. It's a perfect gift for yourself or someone special this March or April, especially for Easter. This adorable bunny is 8 inches tall, made from a mix of cotton and polyester, with a polyester fiber and plastic pellet filling. The T-shirt it wears is 100% cotton with a sewn-in label.
