Outpost Neighborhood Association is launching a fundraising campaign to bring a private security patrol car to Outpost Estates which would patrol the neighborhood and assist with watching, reporting, and deterring crime.

Given the recent wildfires, there has been an increase in criminal activity all across Los Angeles, and even in Outpost Estates. Reports of looters trying to break into homes during the mandatory wildfire evacuation, reports of people intentionally setting fires, and reports of car and home break ins.

The total cost for a private security patrol in Outpost Estates can range from $180,000 to $480,000 per year depending on the number of security patrol hours requested.

$15,000 per month for 8 hours of dedicated patrol (that is $180,000 per year) for something like 10pm to 6am every day;
$30,000 per month for 16 hours per day ($360,000 per year) for something like 5pm to 9am every day; or
$40,000 per month for 24 hours per day of patrol ($480,000 per year).

It costs about $55 per hour for a security patrol car/person. This includes guard wages (about $25 per hour), fuel costs (about $5 per hour), vehicle maintenance and insurance (about $15 per hour), other expenses for things like uniforms, cell phone, administrative overhead costs and profit (about $10 per hour).

We can raise the funds needed for a security patrol in Outpost Estates if:

72 people donated $2,500 each;
180 people donate $1,000 each;
360 people donate $500 each;

Outpost Neighborhood Association is a non-profit 501c3 organization so donations may be tax deductible since this initiative is in line with our mission to promotes the public safety, community beautification, and public enjoyment of the Outpost Estates neighborhood including canyons adjacent to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, to lessen the burdens of government, to educate the public with respect to region's history and public safety. 100% of all donations will be used towards covering the costs of the security patrol and funds will be held in reserve until enough funds are raised and there is agreement by those that donate which security patrol company should be selected.

Various security companies are being reviewed:
Discussions are underway with the adjoining Hollywood Heights neighborhood on splitting the costs for the patrol. This would increase the patrol area and response times.
The security patrol would drive around the 16 streets of neighborhood in the security patrol car with lights flashing to ensure their presence is known. Their routes would be randomized. The security patrol staff would watch for suspicious activities and report things right away to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Outpost Neighborhood Association supporters would be given the cell number of the security patrol to call or text if issues arise so that they can assist and help engage with the Los Angeles Police Department.
