The current GWHS Alumni Association was founded in 1951, replacing an earlier alumni organization group which ran from 1937 to 1939-40.

GWHSAA's transformation from social club to campus support began in the 1960s when alumni established a few limited-term scholarships, and expanded with the heartwarming response from alumni to fundraising for the school's 50th anniversary in 1986-87 which created GWHSAA's first permanent fund: the Alumni Endowment.

Income from this fund and a score of other program funds enables us to make Grants to teachers and coaches for classroom supplies and student activities not funded by the school district, such as books and other media, science materials, music instruments, sports equipment, auto shop equipment, computers and more, which enable teachers and coaches to improve the learning setting for their students to succeed in today's competitive environment.

GWHSAA also manages over 3 dozen scholarship funds (including the prestigious Principals' Cups) to help deserving graduates with college costs.

This is all thanks to our generous alumni, retired faculty, and family. Your generosity helps GWHS maintain its high standard of educational excellence so today's students may attain a brighter future.
