This summer, we rescued a sweet soul named Scara from the Merced County animal shelter. Overlooked for reasons we’ll never truly understand, Scara has a gentle spirit that shines through despite the unimaginable hardships she’s endured. Whether she’s enjoying a quiet evening walk in the park or relaxing on the beach, her loving heart remains open — even after everything she’s been through.

We haven’t shared much about Scara publicly, but behind the scenes, we’ve been working tirelessly to help her heal. She’s been on a special diet, receiving care for her skin allergies, and has had countless vet visits. Today, we have a clearer picture of her past, and though it breaks our hearts, we are incredibly proud of her resilience.
Scara has been through more than any dog should ever have to endure. Overbred to the point of scarring, starved, and denied even water, she has a trauma so deep that she feels she needs permission just to drink. And now, she has a large mass hanging from her chest that urgently needs to be removed.

But that’s not all🥺 When we took X-rays to prepare her for surgery, we discovered the unthinkable: Scara had been shot. She was also likely hit by a car. This gentle, loving dog — who wouldn’t hurt a soul — was shot. The damage is extensive, and she now needs knee surgery due to the pellet and the trauma from the impact with the car.

The thought of what she’s been through is devastating, but despite it all, Scara is a beacon of love. Strangers stop her foster mom on walks just to comment on how beautiful and sweet she is. She protects little dogs at the park, never letting her own pain stop her from being the kind, caring soul she is.
