Shakti Through the Decades | In support of the Downtown Women's Center
Sunday at 3:00 PM PDT
Established in 1977, the Shakti School of Bharata Natyam has had a long and vibrant relationship with the city of Los Angeles. Over the years, the school has been involved in many community events and charity performances, as well as presenting numerous shows in LA County.
The Shakti Dance Company has spent decades supporting, offering , and inspiring young artists to continue their journey of expression through dance. Every 10 years, Shakti commemorates and celebrates the work and growth of the students and the school by putting on a grand production. Unfortunately, the pandemic put those plans on hold last year. In the name of continuing our “Shakti Through the Decades” tradition, we present the Shakti Decades Project as a virtual fundraising event. This is a voluntary donation and a chance to watch our amazing students and their journey with dance.
The pandemic affected our school and city greatly, and we want to help give back to our Los Angeles community by supporting the Downtown Women’s Center. The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is the only organization in Los Angeles focused exclusively on serving and empowering women experiencing homelessness. DWC envisions a Los Angeles with every woman housed and on a path to personal stability. Their mission is to end homelessness for women in greater Los Angeles through housing, wellness, employment, and advocacy, and it’s a vision we couldn’t agree with more.
Join us in supporting the DWC and our Los Angeles neighborhood by giving a voluntary donation via our fundraising page while celebrating our Shakti dancers and community on Sunday, August 1st at 3 pm pst on YouTube Live!
You will be hearing from many of our Shakti dancers through this decade and join them in reflecting and dancing through their journeys.
