Culture Shock LA is excited to bring back our annual benefit showcase, an evening of dance and community celebration, all in support of a cause close to our hearts. This year's showcase is presented in honor of our beloved Shock Family member, Akito.

Shapeshifters centers around the themes of belonging, transformation, and inner healing. The show follows a dynamic storyline that explores the journey of self transformation. During these times of instability, we hope to offer a space to celebrate our lived experiences, creativity, and the strength of our community.

Synopsis

What if our life in this universe is not as we know it to be?

What happens when we are asked to be someone we are not?

What becomes of us when we are hurt?

Who is there for us?

In this multidimensional universe explored through dance, we follow Umi (they/them) in three different timelines as they encounter time traveling portals, otherworldly monsters, and various versions of their own selves in this journey of questioning, struggle, and change.

To those who have ever felt like they don’t belong, we hope you find solidarity through Umi. Our lack of belonging on an individual level is ironically what brings us together.

- $1.00 per hour for the first 2 hours. $3 for the third hour. $1.50 each 15 min thereafter. $3.00 flat rate after 5 PM.

About Culture Shock Los Angeles

Since 1994, Culture Shock Los Angeles has used Hip-Hop dance forms to involve traditionally underserved populations in the arts, and promotes concepts such as self-expression, critical thinking, and cultural awareness through artistic development. CSLA continues to reach students throughout the greater Los Angeles area, incorporating key components of the California Common Core and Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Standards in its curricula. Through dance, our programs build on core themes such as teamwork, celebrating diversity, and self-expression with the intent of creating community-minded and self-confident artists.

With support from the LA County Department of Arts & Culture, LA City’s Department of Cultural Affairs, and DEA Educational Foundation, Culture Shock LA reaches thousands of youths and adults through instructional workshops, school assemblies, and professional performances.
