Cleaner Air, Healthier Future
Across Dallas, our air is not equal. Families in frontline neighborhoods, many already burdened by poverty, are exposed to air pollution levels that are up to 11X higher than the rest of the city. Children in these ZIP codes are 4X to 5X more likely to suffer from asthma attacks that send them to emergency rooms. While the data shows the problem, little action is taken and few voices are heard.
The Shared Skies Initiative was created to change that. Our campaign brings together science, youth leadership, and grassroots action to give neighborhoods the power to fight for clean air.
-
Research: We are deploying a network of low-cost PurpleAir sensors at schools, churches, and neighborhood walking routes across Dallas. These sensors publish real-time data to a digital open-access map, highlighting pollution hotspots that regulators and decision-makers can no longer overlook.
-
Advocacy: We are training the next generation of climate champions through our Youth Ambassador program. These students will speak at city council meetings, garner social media support, and ensure policymakers hear the truth from the people who live it every day.
-
Action: We are funding and supporting the implementation of local solutions that directly address air quality. We hope to provide mentorship for school-club projects to campaigns for green spaces across Texas neighborhoods.
Our 2025-2026 campaign goals are ambitious:
-
Raise $10,000 in funding to support overhead, research, advocacy, and action.
-
Deploy 10 air quality sensors across the DFW Metroplex.
-
Engage 50 youth ambassadors to become advocates for environmental justice.
-
Dedicate $2,500 in selected mini-grants for community-led clean air projects.
- Decrease absenteeism by 10% through public service announcements in schools.
We need to realize that this is not just an environmental issue: it’s a justice issue. We're doing this to ensure that a child’s ZIP code does not predetermine their right to clean air. It’s about building a city where every person, in every neighborhood, shares the same clear, healthy sky.
