The South High Community and Jazz Bands (SHCB) are volunteer-based bands for south Minneapolis and beyond. We are delighted to have people of all ages and abilities sharing and developing their musical talents as part of our ensembles!

SHCB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a charity in the state of MN, and has a leadership board comprised solely of volunteers. The only paid member of the band is our director, and we are committed to paying her fairly for her leadership and time. Other costs throughout the season include business insurance, annual charity registration, renting our rehearsal and performance spaces, and buying music, materials and supplies.

Whenever we can, we support the South High music program by co-funding or donating big-ticket items like instruments or needed equipment. We have also donated to the South High Band Boosters to support band trips and other causes that benefit South High music students.

In order to fund all of this, we ask band participants to consider making a tax-deductible donation at the start of each band season. This vital support ensures we can cover all our costs. You'll notice, though, that we do not call them "dues", and there's a reason for that - nothing is owed to participate in SHCB. All participants are welcome regardless of ability to pay.

The SHCB board assesses our financial situation annually and calculates a suggested participant donation that covers our costs with a little cushion. If the suggested amounts do not fit your budget, you are welcome to pay anything you can.

This year, the suggested donation per musician is:

Participation in Concert Band: $80.00/season
Participation in Jazz Band: $40.00/season
Participation in both bands: $120.00/season
