Flute and Cello couple Paix de Duo is comprised of partners in music and marriage, Sophia Anastasia and Nicholas Tzavaras. Married since 2005 and making music for even longer, the duo’s daily life is an intermingling of their love of classical music, their children, and their community. Hailed by the New York Times as playing with “vitality and gusto,” Sophia Anastasia is an accomplished flutist in the New York metropolitan area. Originally from Bloomfield, Ms. Anastasia is the product of a public school music program, having been introduced to the flute in elementary school. 

A native of Spanish Harlem in New York City, cellist Nicholas Tzavaras has toured the globe as a chamber musician, soloist and educator for the past two decades. He has performed more than 1600 concerts worldwide, from Cartegena, Columbia to the Tonhalle in Zurich to Nagasaki, Japan. Since 2000, Mr. Tzavaras has been the cellist of the internationally renowned Shanghai Quartet.

Nick and Sophia make their home in Montclair, NJ with their three children and 22 precocious chickens. Their kids go to Bradford School and Buzz Aldrin Middle School and are in the 2nd, 4th and 6th grades. Eleni is studying the piano, Daphne the guitar, George considers himself a cellist, and all three kids dabble a bit on the flute. 

Their parents are excited to have them enrolled in their school’s instrumental and choral music programs. After all their years of study and performance, Nick and Sophia find true enjoyment and satisfaction when playing music alongside their kids and when collaborating with the music teachers of our public schools and offering and sharing their passions with young people.
