We understand funds are tight this year and we want you to know that even $5 is a tremendous benefit to taking care of the everyday needs of our horses.

We are a 100% volunteer organization. This means that your donations don't pay salaries - they take care of the horses with things like:

* Dewormer - our herd will be wormed with Equimax or Quest Plus within the next 2 weeks.

* Farrier - most of our horses are barefoot, and a trim (every 5-6 weeks) costs $55 - $70 depending on the practitioner.

* Hay - Round rolls cost $50 each in our area. We pay between $6 - $9 for each square bale; a horse will eat one square bale about every 2 days by himself.

*Feed/grain - The grains we feed cost between $22 - $26 per bag and each horse has a taylored nutrition program based on his or her needs.

*Medications and supplements - Depending on the horses needs, we may add rice bran, Cool Calories, or ActiFlex. We have one horse currently on Prascend for Cushings.

*Routine veterinary care - an annual visit costs between $225 - $300. Dental care adds $100. Chiropractic care is around $100 per visit. Bloodwork and radiographs start around $100 and can go upwards of $500. We appreciate the dedication of our veterinarians and we never expect professionals to do this 'for free'.

*Training - Trainers who we use to help develop adoptable horses charge between $800 - $1000 per month in training and boarding fees. We use professional trainers when we do not have volunteers with the time and ability to start and ride specific horses. We never expect professionals to do this 'for free'.

*Castrations and euthanasia via Charlie's Fund - when we fund these visits, we allocate $250 per procedure. Depending on the attending veterinarian, this may be a bit more or a bit less.

*Our administrative costs - we do a lot with minimal expenses; these include our PO Box, domain and website fees, a bit of social media advertising, the costs of photocopies/printer paper and toner, and items that may accompany events.
