As many of my family and friends know, I have been involved with Siblings Forever (previously Camp to Belong - GA) for over 3 years first as a camp counselor and financial committee member and then became the Executive Treasurer last year. This organization has touched my heart in countless ways.
At one of my first Family Connection Events I was the counselor for a set of 3 sisters aged 12, 10 and 5. The sisters do not all get to live together and they only see each other at our camps or when/if the parents can get together (which for many sibling sets is very rare or not at all; some siblings have only ever met at our camps).
However, their love for each other was so pure. The older girls took care of the little one and played whatever games and did whatever crafts she wanted to do knowing how happy it made her - it made them all very happy. They all hugged each other constantly and you could just tell how much love there is between them.
At the end of the event, they had to say goodbye and watching them part left a lasting impression on me. It was at this moment that I knew I would be dedicated to this organization for the long term and the mission to bring separated siblings together to create lasting memories.
I have 2 sisters of my own, and while they drove me crazy a lot when I was growing up, I also cannot imagine not having them in my life and having the memories we shared together. That is why helping an organization fight for the ability to unite siblings who have been affected by sibling separation whether it be through foster care, adoption, or any other reason is one of the things I'm most proud of.
So I ask you, please help us in achieving our goals to bring together more sibling sets as often as we can throughout the year! Their smiles and hugs are worth every dollar, I promise you :)
