🙏 My Story

Hi, my name is Simon Sekate, Director of Prosper Junior School and Founder of Byerima Children Support Center (BCSC) in Uganda, East Africa.

I’m a teacher by profession and an environmentalist by passion. My dream has always been to uplift the most vulnerable children—orphans, less privileged families, children affected by HIV/AIDS, and those coming from single-parent households—because every child deserves hope and a future.

“Sekate Simon” simply means someone who stands strong in the face of challenges—and that is my life story.

🌱 Where I Come From

I was born in Kabanyi, Kyankwanzi district, and raised in Kiboga, Kampala. My early childhood was shaped by hardship but also by love. I lost my father in an accident when I was still very young, and my mother became our rock—working day and night to keep us in school.

Her example taught me resilience, courage, and the power of a single parent’s sacrifice. God’s grace carried us through every difficult moment, and it is through those struggles that I became who I am today.

My mum is my lifelong inspiration. She became a teacher, and because of her, I am one too. Her dedication planted a seed in me—a calling to help vulnerable children, just as she helped me.

I am the firstborn in a small, close-knit family with my brothers Sserugo Abel and Semmugenyi Samuel and my sister, Nabasumba Betty. I’m 28, not yet married, and my life is dedicated to service.

🎓 My Journey as a Teacher

I completed my professional teacher training in 2017 and received additional training in children’s protection through the My Body Is My Body program.

In 2018, I took a leap of faith and founded Prosper Junior School—starting with just a few children and a very big dream. Today, we’re providing food, education, school supplies, and healthcare to children who would otherwise have no chance.

We don’t just teach children—we grow futures.

🌍 The Challenge We Are Facing

In Uganda, education is not free. Most vulnerable families cannot afford the basic costs of sending a child to school:

school fees
uniforms
books
pencils
shoes
healthcare
transport

Parents are forced to choose between education and food. Many children grow up without hope, without basic human dignity, and without the chance to dream.

That’s why we’re here—to stand in that gap.

🏫 What Our Organization Does

Byerima Children Support Organization (BCSO) provides: ✨ free education

We focus especially on:

• orphans

• street children

• children affected by HIV/AIDS

• abused or violated children

• single-parent families

• war-affected and trauma-affected children

We also promote environmental protection and climate action through tree planting and youth education.
