In collaboration with GW, Elliott School of International Affairs, Brazza International
Foundation, is conducting a 10-day fact finding mission to Accra, Ghana in March 2023.
The purpose of the Study Tour is to develop a research methodology concentrating on
Smart Agriculture and the economics of technological innovations.

As the world works towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) and recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, our focus for this particular study tour will be the SDG #2, which aims to end hunger and malnutrition by 2030. The ten days study tour in Accra, Ghana will present concepts for a technical and infrastructure backbone to development and implementation strategies for expanding agricultural techniques, and crop cultivation. The team will consider achieving sustainability in the following areas:

1. Smart Agriculture & the modernization of agriculture sectors;
2. The economics of technological innovations
3. Develop mechanisms for sustaining livestock
4. Developing multiple planting seasons for each year
5. Empower women through vegetable and herb cultivation, and;
6. Other concerns that may be considered which are of paramount importance to
field research.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, climate change has significantly threatened rural communities and livelihoods. This is partly due to the fact that rural communities are relatively more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The region is more susceptible to climate risks especially through the amount of increased high temperature, the patterns of their rainfall and also the intensity and frequency of their extreme drought and floods. These factors have inevitably continued to impact the decreasing agricultural production of crops in the region, such as maize and millet. This research study tour will focus strategically on smart agriculture innovations which will likely benefit and strengthen the role agricultural technologies and practices can enhance greater productivity. Our objective for this trip is simple, to highlight how adoption and scaling of these proven technologies and innovation can play an instrumental role in small holder farming communities in Africa, especially for women.
