Since intercollegiate athletics returned to Southwestern Michigan College in Fall 2021, our wrestling program has been on a historic run. Led by alumnus and Head Coach Todd Hesson, the Roadrunners have claimed three straight MCCAA titles, won the Great Lakes District in 2025, and qualified 10 athletes for the NJCAA National Championships — finishing the 2024-25 season ranked #14 nationally. Coach Hesson was also named NJCAA Men’s National Coach of the Year.
Our wrestlers are excelling off the mat too, with a 3.3 team GPA and six NJCAA Scholar All-Americans in just two years. Coach Hesson says it best: “Education is the number-one thing.”
Now, we’re growing again — with women’s wrestling launching in Fall 2025, making SMC the first college in Michigan to offer the sport at the NJCAA level.
Help us continue building something special. Your support fuels our momentum — on the mat, in the classroom, and into the future.
