Founded in 2011 by the compassionate and determined Courtney Bellew, SNARR Northeast began with a singular mission: to save the lives of animals in need, especially those deemed “unadoptable.” Our journey started with a chance encounter at the Manhattan Animal Care & Control Shelter, where Courtney met a special dog named Frankie—a deaf Pit Bull whose calm demeanor and soulful eyes sparked a fire in her heart. Despite having a full house of her own dogs, she couldn’t turn her back on Frankie. She reached out through social media, seeking a rescue group to step in and help, while she and her husband offered their home as a foster.
After months of volunteering and witnessing firsthand the plight of countless animals, Courtney realized that her true passion lay in rescue. Thus, SNARR Northeast was born, dedicated to saving the toughest cases: dogs with serious medical conditions, those who are deaf or blind, and severely emaciated animals—those that others would overlook or even euthanize. Our mission is fueled by the belief that every dog deserves a chance, no matter their circumstances.
In 2019, we expanded our commitment by opening a physical adoption center in Brewster, NY, allowing us to provide a safe haven for even more animals. Although we are based in New York, our dedication knows no geographical limits; we are determined to rescue animals wherever they are needed.
While we do save animals with significant challenges, we also take in perfectly healthy pets—because every life is precious, and countless innocent beings need our help. We rely solely on donations as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and every contribution allows us to continue our vital work.
Frankie, the dog who inspired it all, was a beloved member of the Bellew family for 10 wonderful years until he crossed the rainbow bridge on December 5, 2021. His legacy lives on in the countless lives we save every day. At SNARR Northeast, we remain committed to giving hope to the hopeless and a second chance to the deserving. Together, we can make a difference, one paw at a time. 🐾❤️
