This is the reality for many individuals living with DI, a condition often linked to hypothalamic-pituitary brain tumors.

At the Raymond A. Wood Foundation (RAWF), we're dedicated to empowering survivors and caregivers impacted by hypothalamic-pituitary brain tumors. Our latest endeavor is the development of a groundbreaking solution: a home use sodium meter. This innovative device, developed in collaboration with Giner Labs, will revolutionize how individuals manage their DI by providing real-time sodium level monitoring from the comfort of home.

The journey to developing this life-changing technology began in 2020 with a shared vision among experts in the field, including Dr. Shana McCormack from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Neuroendocrine Clinic, Amy Wood, executive director of RAWF, and Dr. Khushbu Patel, Director of CHOP’s Clinical Chemistry Laboratory. Together, we're paving the way for proactive management of AVP-D, aiming to prevent emergencies and hospitalizations through early detection and intervention.

Sodium testing isn't just vital for individuals with AVP-D; it plays a crucial role in managing various other health conditions as well. From congestive heart failure and cirrhosis to chronic kidney disease, maintaining optimal sodium levels is essential for overall well-being. Moreover, in the realm of sports and military operations, sodium testing is instrumental in preventing and managing exertional hyponatremia, ensuring athletes and personnel can perform at their best without compromising their health. By advancing the development of a home use sodium meter, we're not only addressing the needs of AVP-D patients but also contributing to broader efforts in healthcare management and optimization.

Phase one of development is completed, thanks to support from a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). However, to bridge funding gaps and propel the project closer to commercialization, we need your help.
