SOMOS Community Development Project

Dear Spokane Community Members,

Latinos en Spokane (LES) is excited to share an important update and invite you to stand with us in support of the SOMOS Community Development Project.

For years, LES has provided culturally responsive, bilingual services to Latino and immigrant families across Spokane County. Through Poder Legal, Community Comadres, Emprendete, Mercadito, and Rutas Seguras, we support families with legal assistance, family stabilization, small business development, food access, and affordable bilingual driver’s education. Every day, we see the need for stable housing and accessible services in one trusted location.

The SOMOS Project will establish a permanent, community-owned hub in Spokane’s West Central neighborhood that integrates eight units of affordable housing with on-site legal, economic, and community services. This project will create long-term infrastructure that stabilizes families, strengthens neighborhoods, and keeps resources rooted in our community.

We have submitted a $1,000,000 Capital Budget request during this legislative session, sponsored by Representative Tim Ormsby. We have already invested in design,  feasibility studies, City of Spokane support for predesign and capital campaign development, and $400,000 in pledged philanthropic commitments contingent upon state investment.
