Despite being one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, over 100,000 San Mateo County residents live in households earning $50,000 or less. These individuals, including farmworkers, immigrants, families with children, BIPOC communities, and those with limited English proficiency, struggle to afford basic needs. Economic, cultural, and systemic barriers to care lead to lost wages for adults and school absences for children, perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

Sonrisas clinicians - who speak 7 languages in addition to English - provide compassionate care to 5,000 individuals at 16,000 visits annually. 3 in 4 are low-income, and nearly half are children. Our team also screens 4000 high-needs children at local schools every year.

Sonrisas Dental Health was founded in 2001 by community members who saw unmet need and were determined to make a difference. Our vision is that every adult and child should have a dental home, including those facing physical, developmental, and financial challenges.
