This past year I sadly and unexpectedly lost both my Buba and my Nan z”l. In their memory, I’m doing a piano concert to raise money for Room to Read (roomtoread.org) , an organization whose mission is to ensure every child has access to high-quality education, and helps historically low-income communities break the cycle of poverty by improving literacy rates.

I am so lucky to have had 2 grandmothers as role models that placed such a high value on female independence and education. I grew up hearing stories about Buba sneaking off to high school behind her father’s back because he didn’t believe women needed to get an education and about how much Nan sacrificed to ensure her two daughters got their dream education and could be financially independent. They both loved to read.

They were my number one fans-I miss being able to share piano with them, hug them, and of course, gossiping with them on the phone. I’m forever grateful for the time we had together and for the families they built.
