The Hidden GEM Summer Film Lab is an exciting new initiative from Hidden GEM Creative Studios, an Oakland-based organization that has served the Bay Area creative community for over a decade. Designed for youth ages 11–14, the program offers hands-on experience with professional filmmaking tools and technologies, including 4K cameras, studio lighting, green screen production, and an audio recording booth.

More than just a film camp, the program is designed to cultivate creativity, collaboration, and community. Through guided projects and mentorship, campers will explore storytelling while developing teamwork and critical thinking skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.

For over 10 years, Hidden GEM Creative Studios has provided career-preparing film programs for marginalized communities throughout the Oakland and greater Bay Area. The organization specializes in socially conscious storytelling, empowering emerging creators to produce work that raises awareness around social justice and community issues.

Hidden GEM’s flagship nine-month career intensive program has helped launch the careers of many alumni who now work across the media and creative industries at companies such as Netflix, Amazon, and Red Bull. Today, Hidden GEM’s team of instructors and creatives continue producing original content while bringing more than 30 years of combined experience in filmmaking, production, and media education.
