We pulled her from Contra Costa Shelter in the final hours — a tiny, timid girl who looked completely lost. We believe she lost her person. For weeks, she barely moved and flinched at everything.

Then she got pneumonia.

She had to be rushed into foster care to survive — and that’s when something beautiful happened.

Her foster mama stayed close.
Soft voices. Warm blankets. Gentle patience.

And slowly… Nutmeg began to trust.

Now she follows her foster mom from room to room, always just a step behind. She looks up with huge brown eyes that seem to search your face for reassurance. And when she feels safe, she melts into you.

But Nutmeg is still hurting.

She has painful dental disease and needs urgent treatment so she can eat, rest, and live without constant pain. Dogs like her suffer silently — and she deserves better.
